GCS :Guidance and Counseling Service

I liked helping the new students to know about campus life.Like in the starting as a new student I had many doubts and faced many difficulties in knowing the campus and it's life. At that point my mentor has guided me and honestly I loved doing the same thing to my juniors in their first part of college life.As a student in this transition from school to college it is tough for students to easily settle themselves, they need a mentor. It was a great experience and I am still enjoying doing the same.GCS has helped me whenever I have needed them, when I was new to the institute and when I had tonnes of doubts, instead of getting annoyed my mentor had patiently guided me and inspired me to be a part of GCS.

Ever Since we entered a new world, there are a lot of new things we will be amazed of and on the other hand we too have a lot of problems and doubts arise in our brain. When I became a part of IIT Mandi, the excitement I felt was at its peak. As soon as the semester started along with that excitement, many doubts and confusions rushed to me. I couldn't imagine how I would have managed those without GCS.The first call I received from the IIT Mandi family was from mentor. He guided me a lot, even on a small thing like filling a field in application form at time of admission. Not only he helped in college procedures, but also guided and cleared some doubts on my areas of interests, connected me to my batchmates, and what not every query I asked.

Transitioning from school to college can be very overwhelming for most students. It is the first time for many where they have to leave their parents and live for the next 4 years in a hostel with people they have never met before in their life. Fortunately, in online classes, in spite of its several disadvantages, the transition is smoother. This is where Guidance and Counselling Service plays a big part. When I first got admitted in IIT Mandi, I had several apprehensions as to how the college was in terms of academics, clubs, societies, coding culture and most importantly its remote location. I had been assigned a mentor to guide me through all these. He contacted me quite frequently in the initial weeks of classes and checked if everything was fine. I had a few family problems as well, so I had asked if there were any counsellors whom I could talk with. He provided me with various contacts, which strengthened my belief that mental health was really a major factor and our college was trying its best to improve the mental health of the students. Even now I ask many doubts regarding internships and placements and my mentor answers them to the best of his knowledge. I hope I can be of help to someone as well because I know several students are in my shoes and in dire need of guidance.
